Lingering Guilt

Joel finally got up the guts to tell me about the time he peed on the carpet in the corner of his room.  He did it a couple of years ago to spite me for giving him a timeout.  I hadn't read anywhere in the parenting books how to handle that one so the only thing I could say was, "I'll show you how to clean that up on Saturday."  I should take the books back for a refund.

Dining Room

The trim is almost in the dining room.  It's looking lovely!!
 I just liked the laser!
 OK, now, it's done.
We flipped the door so that it will swing open into the dining room now.  We also had to move the wall switches over to the kitchen-side so that the door wouldn't block access to the light switches.

Saturday's Work

I found tile, luckily, on Friday.  It's a long story, really.  (Thanks, Mom, for listening!)  I learned that "high-end" tile generally gets ordered 4-6 weeks out.  Bob had been warning me that it was time to do the backsplash, hence a mad Facebook blitz for advice on what to put in there.  Deciding was hard.  The luck part was that some high-end tile that fit perfectly was discontinued in some warehouse and waiting for someone to want it for cheap or free and I was in the right place at the right time to get it!   (Oddly, I stumbled into some tile at HD too that was $.01/sf, too!  I think I may have found my superpower!)
I bought this tile on Friday and Bob got right down to installing it Saturday.
The color is almost exactly the same as the paint on the wall.  A perfect contrast, in my opinion.
The warehouse had a couple of boxes of bullnose to match that wasn't in their inventory, so I could have it for free.  This serendipitously solved our problem of what to do around the unfinished edges.
While Bob worked on tile, I painted these shelves that we'll put on the wall in the kids' rooms with the paint we're using for all the trim and baseboards.  Took longer than I thought it would, of course.  But hopefully I did a good job on the first coat so that the second coat will be much easier.

Bathroom

I was worrying about the bathroom: the paint, and how the cabinets looked in there with the dark countertops.  Now that the tile is in place, I'm liking it all so much more.  It's amazing how the tile really pulls things together.
I'm also proud of the choice of quarter round tile on the niche edges.  It was going to be framed by the 3x12s that we're using around the floor and sides but this looks so much better in the shower.  Yay!

Kitchen counters, tiles, floors, oh my!

The floors are freshly sanded and coated.  One more coat to go.
The mix of red and white oak is different.  Not too fancy.
Speaking of fancy, the kitchen is looking amazing!  I'm so excited about how it's coming together.  Yes, we went with the darker tiles and I don't regret it a bit.  It looks terrific in there.
The other side of the kitchen.  I love the eased edge choice on the countertops.  Now I need to find a backsplash tile that is not shiny, looks like stone, is creamy white like the painted wall there now, and doesn't cost a lot.
Here's the beginnings of the shower tile.  We went with the lighter one there.  This is the room I'm worrying about right now.  The paint looks extra yellow in there and the cabinets look too orange.  I'm just not sure how to make it all work.  The tiles are interesting, though.  I think that part will look great.
I need to find a vanity mirror with or without a frame?  oval or rectangle?  wood or metal?  to the ceiling or just the height of the linen closet?
One more glimpse at the counter now with the sink in place right before I left for the day.

Boxing

There's nothing like boxing up your stuff to make you lose your appetite for buying anything ever again.   I don't need any more stuff.  Someone asked if they could help with anything and a tornado actually came to mind.  Spinning my stuff up, up, and away.  What are we going to do with all this wedding china?  Is my marriage cursed if I sell it?  I've listed a lot of stuff on Craigslist, but I'm hardly getting any nibbles.  It's all making me itch.

More work done Monday

This is the trim for the windows.  Clean and simple.  I love it.
This is the baseboard that I picked out.  I'll probably have to dust it more than the angled style, but it looks so nice.
Discovering the floors are not water-stained or damaged was a thrill.  And I love the color.  Hopefully we can get it matched close to this as it's refinished.
There's a piece of wood trim going diagonally along the edge of the fireplace tiles that I am also happy about.
The linen closet is hogging a ton of space, but it's necessary.  We should have the vanity in tomorrow.
Oh, the cabinets are beautiful.  I'm calling this color milk chocolate.  It makes sense that it  makes me happy to look at it.
I stopped by to measure the vanity before Bob picked it up today.  It looks lighter than the linen closet in my photos, but hopefully it'll match.  I checked the invoice and they both say "light cherry".
We went with different, lighter cabinets for the bathroom than the kitchen because they were less expensive and easier to order.  Our kitchen cabinets are through Lowes, and the ordering/purchasing process has not been painless.  We'll see how it all works out.
