Drywall Progress

They tapers came and skimmed the seams on the drywall this morning.  The electrician was going from room to room updating the lights and switches.  Three new can lights in the rec room today.  The contractor and I went and bought carpet for this room.
New pipes!  The the plumber has been working hard Sat and today and is all finished with the kitchen plumbing.  He still has to get the gas to the stove.  But not until the blower and duct is put in for the down draft stove, which we haven't bought, yet.
 This is Joel's room.
The upper living room.  Such a mess on everywhere.  I can't tell you how much debris has been removed but it's crazy.  Last I heard, there were six 2-ton dump trips.
The dining room will have two new can lights (the outer two holes).  The one in the middle is de-commisioned.
Here's our new master closet.  Hopefully one can will be enough light in there.  The contractor and electrician wanted 2 but a bigger closet in our current house has only one and it's adequate.
This is our new pantry.  We put up a wall to separate the furnace from the canned goods.  We also put insulation around it so that the furnace doesn't sound like an airplane landing in our kitchen.  When I heard it today, it was so much quieter.  Yay for Problem Solvers!
Ted the Plumber is awesome!  Such a great attitude.  He has had a tough couple of days with one hurdle after another in our bathroom.  There was a lot of plumbing in a very small amount of space and he just got in there and made it happen.  Good man!
This is how much old pipe he had to replace.  Look at that cast iron "Y" beauty there.  Yes, he had to get a shovel and dig out the dirt under the house out from under it so that he could get it out of there because there wasn't enough clearance.
Our bedroom looks really small now, but all we need is a bed in there anyway and a little room to walk around.  If we've measured right, there'll be just that.  And not much else.
New bathroom plumbing!  I know it was a crazy couple of days getting to this point.  I'm glad that I wasn't there for all the swearing during the process.  I just get to see a nice new toilet flange and pipes ready for faucets and such.  Voila!

Drywall day

Drywall is in!  So fast.  Every day another big project is done.
This is the sunken living room.  We're going to use it for entertainment and music.  The plan is to put a tall shelving unit on that wall on the left and outfit it with our TV and such.

Spelling Champ

Jamie's always asking me how to spell things.  Today, I'm listing some of his toys on craigslist, so he calls down to me from his room that he's got a sheriff to include with his cars racetrack that he's selling.
Me:  OK, How do you spell it?
Jamie: sharrifph
Me: What?  [looking on my desktop for a notepad to transcribe this beauty, and suppressing laughter]  Can you spell it again?  I didn't get that.
Jamie:  shirr, -no, sharr-ph, -no, -ghp, -no, I don't know.  You spell share and "ff"

Insulation day!

Progress

Windows are in all but the full bathroom.

Some new electrical in the kitchen is in today, hardwired smoke detectors, some new ethernet jacks, and outlets here and there went in today.  Plumber will be in tomorrow.

Our new skylight in the bathroom.  I love it.  It's facing perfectly south.  The window is framed now and has a temporary in it until the new one is ready.  There will be a linen cabinet in the corner next to the window.  The dangling can is the exhaust fan, I think!  It's been there a while, but the vent for it will be in the wall of the skylight.  We have the option to put it in the ceiling and leave the skylight pristine, but I'm told the vent should be in the highest wall.  Anyone want to weigh in?  I might have a couple of days to decide.

Line Up Little Ladies

Getting ready for church this morning:
Jamie (7yrs):  [watching me put on make-up] Mom, what is all that for?
Me: Girls put this on to make themselves look prettier.
Jamie: [silent pause] You're perfect just the way you are.

Windows underway

The new windows arrived and are being put into place.
Looking out the window, you can see new evidence of a mole in our backyard.  Stinkin' mole!
Walls in the sunken living room are open and almost ready for insulation as soon as windows are in and the wiring is in place.
This is a teaser of the trim around the windows is going to look minus the paint and that one board the contractor took off the right side to show off the insulating wrap around the windows.
The big window in our bedroom.
The old tub is out of the bathroom and debris is cleared, now.  We had to order a smaller window for our bathroom in order to fit a linen cabinet into the corner beside the future vanity.  I know it's dark enough already, but a skylight will brighten things up in there soon.
