Heartstrings

I want to remember these eyes forever.
He's 6 for another 6 weeks.
It scares me already that someday he might not look at me like this anymore: wanting to know, quietly needing attention, taking what life gives him peacefully.  I love this little man.

The best sounds

I wish I could bottle up this sound.  Right now the neighbor's daughter is playing with our kids in the backyard.
Nothing beats the sound of kids playing happily together in the fresh air and sunshine.  There are no weird digital sounds, animated frenzy music, or [interruptions] ... wait, nevermind.  They're done, hungry, bored, whining, and badgering again.  But I got a blissful nap.

What a fun weekend ahead!  I'm excited.  It started tonight with a nice seder.  Now a sleepover.  Tomorrow it's birthdays and egg hunts and puzzles and friends and family and hopefully no one will get hurt and I'll remember to take pictures.

To my enthusiasm: Someone got hurt.  Kid's throwing up.
To guests: Stay away.  This one's contagious.
No need for the camera today.  :(

All's well that ends well.  As it turned out, friends and family have more fortitude than a little bug can topple.  Everyone came and played and ate and carried on and we all had a wonderful day, especially me!

Perfect Pitch?

Today, Joel just sang a tune using the correct pitch names, cold.  We checked his pitches afterwards and he was right.  We quizzed him on a couple of other pitches which he got right, too.  We suspect perfect pitch, but we'll test him again more conclusively some other day, when Harlan and I are not so stinkin' jealous.

Carrots, yum.

Have you ever made carrot chips?  It wasn't my idea.  Joel was pretty sure it was a good one.  Turns out, he was right!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Our little leprechauns visited us again and left their usual messes around the house.  I'm keeping it clean by not showing what was in the toilet.  But let's just say there was a lot of green stuff to clean up.
I love seeing the kids excited about surprise visitors.  This particular morning, though, I think we were supposed to be allowed to sleep in, but at 7am who wouldn't be entertained by a full report of how many visitors we had and what they were up to, based on their wonderful CSI skills?  I especially liked that they noticed one leprechaun had 3 toes and one had 5.
